Faith Relations Director
Scott Thayer has been an ordained minister since 1983. He has been an adult volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America for over 30 years, serving Councils in West Virginia, Georgia, Kansas, California and Alabama. He has passionately advocated for radical inclusivity in the Scouting organization. The congregation he presently serves in Bethany, WV is the first Disciples church to declare itself to be Open and Affirming in the state of West Virginia.
Scott is currently a member of the Executive Board of the Ohio River Valley Council of BSA, is Council Chaplain, and a long-time part of the Council training team. He is also the International Representative for the Council and the Chairman of the Relations Committee for Area 4 in the Central Region. He has recently been named the National Minister for Youth Serving Ministries by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the United States and Canada. He has served as subcamp Chaplain for four consecutive US. National Scout Jamborees (2005 to the present) and as interfaith chaplain for the World Scout Jamboree in Japan (2015). He has also served as interfaith chaplain for the Michigan International Camporee in 2012 and 2016. Scott is a member of the BSA National Religious Relations Committee. He is married to Regina (24 years). The Thayers have one son (Michael, 21 years old).
