Scouts, Parents, Leaders and Supporters Urge Local Councils to Support Youth Equality Resolution

Events Hosted Across the Country Call for the End of Discrimination

May 10, 2013 (USA)Today,Scouts, Scout leaders, parents, and supporters united to urge their locals Boy Scouts councils to support the Boy Scouts of America (BSA)’s resolution that would ensure no youth would ever again be denied membership on the basis of sexual orientation. These events are part of the national campaign Scouts for Equality, together with GLAAD, the Human Rights Campaign and others, has organized to generate support to end discrimination with the BSA.

“With less than two weeks until the vote, today’s ‘Council Day of Action’ is about our members urging local councils to support this historic resolution,” said Zach Wahls, Eagle Scout and Founder of Scouts for Equality. “Yesterday’s Washington Post/ABC News poll found that there is overwhelming support for this resolution – 63 percent of America is calling for this change and it is our hope that councils across America will listen.”

Bikers Bring Message of Equality to America

May 3, 2013 (Idaho Falls, ID) — Today, Eagle Scout Dave McGrath and his son, Army Specialist Joe McGrath, who has just returned from serving in Kuwait, begin an incredible journey that will take them 1800 miles from their home in Idaho to the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) National Meeting in Irving, Texas. This entire journey will be done by bicycle and with the sole purpose of demonstrating their support for ending discrimination in the Boy Scouts.

“For 25 years I was silent on this issue but this old scout promises to be silent no more,” said 48 year-old Dave McGrath. “I leave today with a purpose to see this shameful policy overturned and in support of a stronger Boy Scouts organization that is inclusive and accepting of all Scouts and Scoutmasters.”

Scouts for Equality Kicks Off Final Month with a Nationwide Day of Action
As BSA Vote Draws Near Organization Increases Efforts for Equality

USA – Today, Scouts for Equality kicked off the final month of its voter engagement campaign with a nationwide “Day of Action”. Across the country, many of the organization’s 11,000 members will participate in events to generate support to end discrimination within the Boy Scouts of America’s (BSA). Some of the events being held include public demonstrations, letter writing campaigns and screenings of the Sundance award-winning documentary “A Scouts Honor”.
