Scouts for Equality launches new website; more than 1,000 Eagles support effort

On 07, Aug 2012 | In Campaign News | By Zach Wahls

Scouts for Equality’s campaign against the BSA’s anti-gay membership policy continues to truck along, picking up support–as of this week–from more than 1,000 Eagle Scouts.

This is a big deal.

In addition to the new website, which features politicians, BSA Board Members, celebrities and BSA Councils that have spoken out against the BSA’s ban on gay members and leaders, Scouts for Equality hit quadruple digits in support from Eagle Scouts on the same day we learned that more than 150 Eagles have returned their medals and/or badges.

It’s official SfE policy that we do not endorse the renouncement of the Eagle rank, but understand the passion and reasons of those who choose to do so. Further, when it happens, we want to know about it. The fact is that these voices are much stronger together than when they’re alone. This is why Scouts for Equality has launched ScoutsForEquality.com/Renounced. By unifying these voices in to a central location, we hope to highlight the power of this message.

There is still a lot of work to be done, and we’re going to need your help.

Stay tuned in the days ahead as Scouts for Equality continues to get off the ground. We’ll be putting out a call for volunteer manpower soon and sincerely hope that you can be a part of it.
